So I had to turn this into a GIFset. My favorite part of this entire commercial is that of the way the husband looks at his wife while hugging their daughter. He looks at her in the most amazing way, like he’s is crazy in love with the most beautiful woman in the world. Well-paid actor for the commercial or poorly-paid, he sure knows how to act. I just love it so much.
“A story: A man fires a rifle for many years and he goes to war. And afterward, he turns the rifle in at the armory; And he believes he’s finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands, love a woman, build a house, change his son’s diaper; his hands still remember the rifle…We are still in the desert”. - Jarhead
The beginning of June is National PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) Awareness Week. PTSD is developed from traumatizing events such as war, and the horrors that follow it. War isn’t pretty, and these are some of the side effects of it.
If you know someone who has been in the military and they start to become very nervous around loud bangs and other things, calm them. Do not laugh. Let them know that they are not alone. Let them know there are people like you and I that are supportive of them.
And if you know someone in the future who comes home from war, do not let them bottle things up. Talk to them and let them know it is okay to be open. Not doing so may lead to PTSD, which PTSD isn’t developed quickly. PTSD develops slowly and terrorizes people for a lifetime.
Our heroes are suffering, so you should make them suffer less by letting them be open with you.
